Canadian Olympic Figure Skater Dies in crash At age of 31

Alexandra Paul, a former Canadian Olympic figure skater, died in a car crash on August 23, 2023, at the age of 31. She was a 2014 Olympic ice dancer and former national junior champion. She was killed in a seven-vehicle crash in Melancthon Township, Ontario, along with three other people. Her baby son was also in the car, but he survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Paul was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1992. She began skating at the age of five and quickly rose through the ranks of the sport. She won the Canadian junior title in 2011 and 2012. She also competed at the World Junior Championships in 2011 and 2012.

During her career, she won a silver medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2010 and represented Canada at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Paul made her Olympic debut in 2014, competing with Mitchell Islam in the ice dance event. They finished 18th overall.
